MoU between DIBD and CRIS

  • The Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) and the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on June 9, 2025.
  • The objective of this MoU is to develop and deploy multilingual Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions across key public platforms of Indian Railways.

Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS):

  • Established: July 1986 (as an autonomous organization by the Indian Ministry of Railways)
  • Main objective: Design, develop, implement and maintain Information Technology (IT) systems for Indian Railways

Inauguration of memorial of Ghazi Syed Suheldev

  • The memorial of Ghaznavi commander Ghazi Syed Suheldev will be inaugurated on the banks of Chittaura Lake in Bahraich district of Uttar Pradesh.
  • This grand memorial was inaugurated by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on June 10, 2025.

Agreement for the Construction of Eight Nuclear Power Plants in Iran

Discovery of 5000-Year-Old Human Settlement in Gujarat

  • A human settlement approximately 5000 years old (around 5200 years old), predating the Harappan civilization, has been discovered in the Kutch district of Gujarat.
  • This discovery was made by archaeologists from the University of Kerala in collaboration with other institutions.

  • Excavations carried out at a site called Padta Bet near Khatia village in Kutch have yielded evidence of a Harappan settlement dating from 3200 BC to 1700 BC.
  • The excavations have yielded circular and rectangular structures made of local sandstone and shale, unique pottery traditions, semi-precious stone beads, terracotta spindle swirls, copper, lithic tools and animal bone fragments.

Policy relaxations for SEZs

  • The central government has announced a series of policy relaxations for Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in June 2025, aimed at promoting high-tech manufacturing, particularly of semiconductors and electronic components.

Special Economic Zone (SEZ):

  • A specially designated area within the country where more liberal and stimulating rules are applied for trade and economic activities than the general laws.
  • The first export processing zone (EPZ) in India was established in 1965 at Kandla (Gujarat)
  • SEZs started being set up in 2000 under the Foreign Trade Policy
  • The "Special Economic Zones Act" was passed in 2005 and came into force in 2006
  • At present there are 379 SEZs notified in India, of which 265 are active

Sixth GC Meeting of NIIF

  • Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs, Nirmala Sitharaman, chaired the sixth Governing Council (GC) meeting of the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Limited (NIIF) in New Delhi on June 9, 2025.
  • The meeting reviewed NIIF's investments in infrastructure sectors such as transport, energy, urban development, and digital infrastructure, along with their socio-economic effectiveness and investor confidence.

Axiom-4 (Ax-4) Mission

  • The launch of the Axiom-4 (Ax-4) mission has been postponed for the third time due to bad weather.

Indian Navy launched a search and rescue operation.

  • The Indian Navy along with the Coast Guard launched a major search and rescue operation following an explosion and fire on the Singapore-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503 44 nautical miles off the Azhikkal coast of Kerala.
  • There were a total of 22 crew members on board the ship, of which 18 were rescued safely. These included 14 Chinese and 6 Taiwanese nationals.
