National News

Caste-wise Census and NPR Together

  • The government has decided to collect data for the upcoming Census, caste-wise enumeration, and the National Population Register (NPR) simultaneously.

Related Facts:

  • The census will be conducted in two phases
  • First phase: Starting from October 2026
  • Second phase: Starting from March 2027
  • First phase: In four states: Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir
  • The census is conducted by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner. It comes under the Union Home Ministry.
  • The 2027 census will be the eighteenth census since 1872 and the eighth since independence.

Launch of 'AYUSH Investment Sarathi' Portal

  • With the aim of establishing India as a global hub in the field of traditional medicine and wellness, the Government of India has launched the 'AYUSH Investment Sarathi' portal.
  • It has been developed in collaboration between the Ministry of AYUSH and Invest India.

Inauguration of Chenab Railway Bridge

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Chenab Railway Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir on 6 June 2025.
  • This bridge is the world's highest railway arch bridge, with a height of 359 meters, which is taller than the Eiffel Tower.

  • This 1,315 meter long steel arch bridge is built over the Chenab river and is specially designed to withstand earthquakes and strong winds.
  • During the inauguration, PM Modi inspected the bridge by walking on it with the tricolor in his hand and after this, flagged off the Vande Bharat train connecting Katra to Srinagar.

Major Change Under Income Tax Slabs

  • The government has introduced a major change under the new income tax slabs in Budget 2025–26.

  • With a standard deduction of ₹75,000, even those earning ₹12.75 lakh annually will be exempt from tax.

Joint Report by Deloitte India and Data Security Council of India

  • According to a joint report by Deloitte India and the Data Security Council of India (DSCI), India's digital forensics market is projected to reach ₹11,829 crore (USD 1.39 billion) by FY 2029–30, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of nearly 40%.
  • This growth rate is almost three times higher than the global average of 11%.

Rafale Fighter Jet Fuselage to Be Manufactured in India

  • On 5 June 2025, France’s Dassault Aviation and India’s Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) signed four production transfer agreements for manufacturing the fuselage (main body structure) of Rafale fighter jets for India and other global markets.

Operation Shiva

‘One Tree for My Mother’ Initiative

  • On the occasion of World Environment Day (5 June 2025), Prime Minister Narendra Modi advanced the ‘One Tree for My Mother’ initiative by planting a sapling at the Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in Delhi.
  • As part of the program, he also launched the Aravalli Green Wall Project, aimed at transforming the Aravalli mountain range into a continuous forested region.
  • Under the ‘One Tree for My Mother’ 2.0 campaign, a target has been set to plant 10 crore (100 million) trees.

200 New Electric Buses Flagged Off

  • On the occasion of World Environment Day (5 June 2025), Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off 200 new electric buses in Delhi to promote green and clean urban transport.
  • These buses will operate under the Delhi Electric Vehicle Interconnector (DEVI) Scheme and are fully air-conditioned, equipped with GPS, CCTV cameras, ramps for the differently-abled, panic buttons, and other modern facilities.

“EnvStats India 2025: Environmental Statistics”

  • The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India, released the 8th edition of the publication titled “EnvStats India 2025: Environmental Statistics” on 5 June 2025.

Key Highlights:

  • The average annual temperature increased from 25.05°C in 2001 to 25.74°C in 2024. Similarly, during the same period, the annual minimum temperature rose from 19.32°C to 20.24°C, and the maximum temperature from 30.78°C to 31.25°C.
  • Globally, there are 247,605 marine species, while India is home to 20,613 species.
  • In India, there are 9,436 freshwater species, 5,023 species in the Indian mangrove system, 3,383 species in estuarine ecosystems, and a significant 22,404 species in soil ecosystems.
  • Inland fish production increased from 6.136 million tonnes in 2013–14 to 13.907 million tonnes in 2023–24.

  • The Ministerial Roundtable on Disaster Risk Reduction Financing was held on 4 June 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland, as part of the Global Platform (GP2025) organized by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).
  • Dr. P. K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, represented India at the conference and appreciated UNDRR and its partners for organizing this important discussion.
