Yog Sangam 2025

  • On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Yoga (IDY), the Ministry of AYUSH organized Yog Sangam 2025.

Sowing of Summer Crops

  • According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, there has been a significant increase in the sowing of summer crops as of 30 May 2025.
  • This year, summer crops have been sown over a total area of 83.93 lakh hectares, which is 9.21 lakh hectares more than the 74.72 lakh hectares recorded during the same period last year — marking a 12.33% increase.

Increase in sowing of major crops:

 

 

  • Paddy: 35.86 lakh hectare (last year 31.06 lakh hectare), an increase of 4.80 lakh hectare
  • Pulses: 24.25 lakh hectare (last year 21.48 lakh hectare), an increase of 2.77 lakh hectare. Notably, sowing of moong reached 21 lakh hectare
  • Coarse cereals (Shri Anna): 14.37 lakh hectare (last year 12.95 lakh hectare), an increase of 1.42 lakh hectare. Major crops are maize (8.80 lakh hectare) and millet (4.90 lakh hectare)
  • Oilseeds: 9.45 lakh hectare, with a marginal increase of 0.22 lakh hectare

Food Storage Scheme

  • A review meeting of the Food Storage Scheme was held on 2nd June 2025 at the Ministry of Cooperation in New Delhi, under the chairmanship of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.
  • During the meeting, it was decided that FCI, NAFED, NCCF, and State Warehousing Corporations should integrate more and more PACS (Primary Agricultural Credit Societies) with warehouses to strengthen the storage infrastructure and ensure that farmers receive fair prices for their produce.

Pradhan Mantri Anna Bhandaar Yojana:

 

 

  • Announcement: In Union Budget 2021-22
  • Formal approval: By Union Cabinet on 31st May 2023
  • Implementing Agency: National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC), NAFED, FCI, and State Cooperative Departments
  • Target: To convert 70,000 PACS into multi-service storage centres

20 percent reservation to Agniveers

  • The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to give 20 percent horizontal reservation to former Agniveers in the direct recruitment of UP Police, PAC, Mounted Police and Firemen in the cabinet meeting on June 3, 2025.
  • Along with this, Agniveers applying for these posts will also be given a relaxation of 3 years in the age limit.

2 lakh professionals join EV industry

  • The Indian EV (electric vehicle) industry is expected to add around 2 lakh professionals to its workforce by 2030.
  • According to industry experts, this growth will help India cut carbon emissions by a massive 1 billion tonnes.

Approval of SPMEPCI Scheme

  • The Government of India, through the Ministry of Heavy Industries, has approved the Scheme for Promotion of Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India (SPMEPCI).
  • The objective of this scheme is to make India a global hub for the manufacturing of electric vehicles (EVs), thereby contributing to the country’s sustainable development and green energy goals.

Key Features of the Scheme:

 

  • Minimum Investment: Applicants are required to make a minimum investment of ₹4,150 crore (approximately $500 million) under the scheme.
  • Localization Targets: Companies must achieve 25% domestic value addition (DVA) by the end of the third year, and 50% DVA by the end of the fifth year.
  • Import Duty Concession: Companies investing in local manufacturing will be allowed to import a limited number of electric cars at a reduced import duty of 15%, compared to the regular rate of 70%.

India’s Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) Collection

  • India’s Gross GST collection stood at ₹2.01 lakh crore in May 2025, reflecting a 16.4% increase compared to ₹1.72 lakh crore in May 2024.

  • The monetary value of all final goods and services produced within a country's borders in a given period of time

Grant Thornton Report

  • According to a survey report by Grant Thornton Bharat, Indian youth—especially those aged 25 years or below—prefer early retirement.
  • Among this group, 43% wish to retire between the ages of 45 and 55.

  • 56 per cent of participants plan to retire between the ages of 55 and 65, which is in line with standard retirement practice in India.
  • 55 per cent of participants expect a monthly pension of over Rs 1 lakh.
  • Only 11 per cent believe their existing investments are sufficient to meet these expectations.

Norway Chess 2025 Tournament

  • Teen chess prodigy Dommaraju Gukesh defeated World No. 1 and five-time World Champion Magnus Carlsen of Norway in the sixth round of the Norway Chess 2025 Tournament.
  • This was Gukesh’s first classical win against Carlsen, making him the second Indian player to defeat the legendary champion, after Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa.

Ulaanbaatar Open 2025

  • The Ulaanbaatar Open 2025 Wrestling Tournament was held from 29 May to 1 June 2025 at the Buyant Ukhaa Sport Palace in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.
  • It was the third event of the United World Wrestling (UWW) 2025 Ranking Series, featuring participation from around 180 wrestlers representing 13 countries.
