81st Annual General Meeting of IATA

  • The 81st Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) was held on 2nd June 2025 in New Delhi.
  • The last time India hosted the AGM was 42 years ago, in 1983.

  • Headquarters: Montreal, Canada
  • Objective: Promote the safety, stability and growth of global air transport
  • Main functions: Create rules and standards, simplify ticketing and booking procedures, coordinate between airlines
  • Members: About 290 airlines, which handle 80% of world air traffic

Inauguration of New CFSL Building

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the new building of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) on 1st June 2025 in New Town near Kolkata.
  • This new facility will help strengthen the criminal justice system in West Bengal and the northeastern region of India.

23 Monuments Proposed for Protected Heritage List

  • The Uttar Pradesh State Archaeology Directorate has surveyed 115 sites across 25 districts, including Lucknow.
  • Out of these, 23 monuments have been recommended for inclusion in the protected heritage list. The list also includes the historic Alambagh Bhavan.

International News

New Banknotes Issued in Bangladesh

  • From 1st June 2025, Bangladesh has issued new banknotes that no longer feature the image of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country's founding father and former Prime Minister.
  • Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who was also the father of current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been replaced by images of Hindu and Buddhist temples, historical palaces, natural landscapes, and traditional sites on the new currency notes.

  • The images will also include artwork by late artist Zainul Abedin on the Bengal famine during British colonial rule and photos of the National Martyrs' Memorial, dedicated to those who died in the 1971 Liberation War.
  • There will be a total of nine denominations of notes under the new design, of which three have been issued in the first phase.

Launch of Pilot Chapter of Investor Camp

  • The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA), under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, in collaboration with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), launched the first “Investor Camp” in Pune.

  • The Investor Camp witnessed the inauguration of an exclusive Investor Guide Brochure developed by National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) titled “Investor’s Guide to Claiming Unclaimed Shares and Dividends.”
  • The brochure explains in simple language the step-by-step procedure for reclaiming unclaimed dividends and shares through Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA) portal, key documents required (like PAN, Aadhaar and Eligibility Letter) and tips to avoid common reasons for rejection of claims.

‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ 2025

  • The ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ 2025 is being organized across India with the collaboration of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, State Agriculture Departments, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).

  • The ‘Vikasit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ started on 29th May and will continue till 12th June.
  • During this 15-day program, Union Agriculture Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will visit 20 states.

  • In the financial year 2024-25, India received a total of USD 81.04 billion in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), with Singapore emerging as the largest contributor.
  • Investment from Singapore amounted to USD 14.94 billion, accounting for approximately 19% of the total FDI inflow.

ESPS Reina Sofía and ITS Antonio Marceglia on Special Naval Visit to Mumbai

  • The Spanish Navy’s frigate ESPS Reina Sofía and the Italian Navy’s ITS Antonio Marceglia are on a special naval visit to Mumbai from May 26 to June 1, 2025.
  • The ships are commanded by Commander Salvador Moreno Regil and Commander Alberto Bartolomeo, respectively.

  • Both the warships operate under Operation Atlanta of the European Union Naval Force (EUNAVFOR), which aims to promote maritime security in the Indian Ocean region.
  • The main purpose of the visit of these warships to Mumbai is to participate in joint naval exercises with the Indian Navy from 1 to 3 June 2025.

  • The report forecasts that India’s economy is expected to grow at a rate between 6.3% and 6.5% in the financial year 2025-26, maintaining its position as one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world.
