Decision to Grant Honorary Promotion of One Rank Up

  • The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken a historic decision to grant an honorary promotion of one rank higher on the day of retirement to personnel of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and Assam Rifles (AR) who retire below the officer rank (from Constable to Sub-Inspector).

  • The honorary rank is one rank higher which will be granted on the day of their retirement.
  • The decision is aimed at boosting the self-esteem, pride and morale of personnel retiring from the rank of Constable to Sub-Inspector.

‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’

  • Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, formally launched the nationwide ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ on 29th May 2025 from Puri district of Odisha.
  • This campaign will run from 29th May to 12th June 2025 and will be organized across more than 700 districts in the country.

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the granting of 'Miniratna' Category-I status to three defence public sector undertakings (PSUs).

Elon Musk Resigns from DOGE Post

  • Elon Musk, who served as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and advisor in former U.S. President Donald Trump's administration, resigned from his post on 29th May 2025.
  • Musk announced his resignation on social media platform ‘X’, thanked Trump, and stated that he was honored to have had the opportunity to work on reducing government expenditure.

  • Musk cited Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill" as the reason for his resignation, which he described as excessively expensive and contrary to DOGE's objectives. The bill included multi-trillion dollar tax breaks, increased defense spending, and measures related to immigration control.

  • The report underscores the growing role of women in driving India’s digital progress.

Goa Statehood Day

  • Goa celebrates its Statehood Day every year on 30th May. On 30th May 1987, Goa was granted statehood and became the 25th state of India, transitioning from a Union Territory.
  • Earlier, Goa was liberated from Portuguese rule on 19th December 1961, a day commemorated as Goa Liberation Day.
