Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Visit Four States

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh on May 29 and 30.
  • The purpose of this visit is to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of various development projects, as well as to participate in political and administrative meetings.

Recommendation for Transfer of Chief Justices of Four States

  • The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the transfer of Chief Justices of the High Courts of Rajasthan, Tripura, Jharkhand, and Madras.

As per the recommendations:

 

  • Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava transferred from Rajasthan High Court to Madras High Court
  • Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh transferred from Tripura High Court to Telangana High Court
  • Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao transferred from Jharkhand High Court to Tripura High Court
  • Justice K.R. Sriram transferred from Madras High Court to Rajasthan High Court

Earthquake Tremors Felt in Manipur

  • On May 28, 2025, two earthquake tremors were felt in Manipur, with magnitudes of 2.5 and 5.2 on the Richter scale.
  • The epicenter was located at 24.46°N latitude and 93.70°E longitude, with a depth of 40 kilometers.

Measurement of intensity: The intensity of an earthquake is measured using two major scales:

  • Richter scale: It measures the energy or magnitude of an earthquake.
  • Mercalli scale: It measures the intensity of the impact and damage of an earthquake.

Formation of Prayagraj-Chitrakoot Development Region

  • The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to form the Prayagraj-Chitrakoot Development Region, which will include a total of six districts, including Prayagraj.
  • The objective is to promote industrial, economic, and employment opportunities extensively in the southern region of the state.

MoUs Signed for Investment in Uttar Pradesh

  • A high-level investor roundtable meeting was organized by Invest UP at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, aimed at attracting an investment of ₹69,000 crore in Uttar Pradesh.
  • During the meeting, several important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with investors and industrial groups from various sectors.

Uttar Pradesh Animal Husbandry Department

  • The Uttar Pradesh Animal Husbandry Department has issued guidelines related to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
  • According to these guidelines, a two-wheeled vehicle pulled by a bull or a young buffalo shall not carry a load exceeding 1000 kilograms during transportation.

Increase in FDI Inflow in the Country

  • According to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the country has witnessed a consistent increase in FDI inflow.
  • It rose from USD 36.05 billion in the financial year 2013–14 to USD 81.04 billion (provisional) in the financial year 2024–25, reflecting a 14% increase from USD 71.28 billion in the financial year 2023–24.

  • Maharashtra had the highest share (39%) in total FDI equity inflows in FY 2024-25, followed by Karnataka (13%) and Delhi (12%).
  • Among source countries, Singapore led with a share of 30%, followed by Mauritius (17%) and the United States (11%).

  • During the first four months of 2025 (January–April), Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports to India rose by nearly 40%, from USD 239 million to USD 334 million.
  • In FY 2023–24, bilateral trade between India and Sri Lanka stood at around USD 5.54 billion, with India’s exports at USD 4.11 billion and Sri Lanka’s exports at USD 1.42 billion.

Next-Generation Two-Seater Electric Trainer Aircraft

  • India has initiated the development of the next-generation two-seater electric trainer aircraft, Electric Hansa (E-Hansa).

Starship’s Third Test Flight

  • International real estate advisory firm Colliers released a report on 28 May 2025 regarding India, stating that the data center (DC) capacity in the country’s top seven cities is expected to exceed 4,500 megawatts by 2030.
