“Yoga Festival 2025”

  • The Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, organized the “Yoga Festival 2025” on 27th May 2025 in Puducherry to mark the 25-day countdown to the 11th International Yoga Day (21st June 2025).

Recommendation for 30 Percent Increase in Stipend

  • The Central Apprenticeship Council has recommended a 30 percent increase in the stipend provided to youth under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) and the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS).

Current Stipend:

Maximum ₹1,500 per month per trainee, of which the Government reimburses 25% (maximum ₹375) to the employer.

Election Dates Announced for Assam and Tamil Nadu

  • The Election Commission has announced the biennial election date as 19th June 2025 for a total of eight Rajya Sabha seats, including two from Assam and six from Tamil Nadu. The current members occupying these seats will complete their terms between June and July 2025.

Election Commission, Constitutional Provisions:

  • Article 324: Provides the Election Commission with the powers of superintendence, direction and control of elections
  • Article 325: No one can be excluded from the voter list on the basis of religion, caste, sex etc.
  • Article 326: Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will be held on the basis of adult suffrage
  • Article 327: Parliament can make laws for elections
  • Article 328: State legislature can make provisions for its elections
  • Article 329: Courts cannot interfere in election related matters, except in an election petition

Approval of 9 New Expressway Projects: Uttar Pradesh

  • The Uttar Pradesh government has approved 9 new expressway projects to further strengthen the road network in the state.
  • The total length of these expressways will be 2,063 kilometers, with an estimated investment of around ₹20,000 crore.

Chief Minister Model Composite Schools

  • The Government of Uttar Pradesh laid the foundation stone for 43 Chief Minister Model Composite Schools from Lucknow on 26th May 2025.
  • These schools will provide education from Class 1 to 12 and each school will spread over approximately 10 to 15 acres of land.

Formation of "Shri Banke Bihari Temple Trust"

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has formed the "Shri Banke Bihari Temple Trust" for the management of the famous Shri Banke Bihari Temple located in Vrindavan.

This trust has been constituted under the Banke Bihari Temple Nyas Ordinance-2025, which was notified after approval by Governor Anandiben Patel.

  • The trust will include 6 members associated with Vaishnav tradition, sect, peeths, 3 educationist, entrepreneur and social worker members, and 2 members from Goswami tradition. Meeting of the Consultative Committee on Inland Waterways Transport

  • Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, chaired the meeting of the Consultative Committee on Inland Waterways Transport in Mumbai on 27th May 2025.

  • Maritime Development Fund (MDF): ₹25,000 crore fund was announced to be set up, with the government contributing 49% and the remaining 51% investment from ports and private sector
  • Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Policy (SBFA 2.0): With an outlay of ₹18,090 crore, this policy has been launched to empower domestic shipyards and enhance their global competitiveness
  • New maritime initiatives: Programmes like "Global Maritime India Summit" and "Sagarmanthan: The Great Oceans Dialogue" were announced
  • 1,000 green ships planned to be launched in the next five years

Report on “Framing a Policy for Medium Enterprises”

  • NITI Aayog released a detailed report on 26th May 2025 titled “Framing a Policy for Medium Enterprises.”
  • According to the report, the MSME sector contributes 29 percent to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and provides employment to over 60 percent of the workforce.

HSBC Research Report

  • According to HSBC Research's latest report, a decline in the inflation rate for the remaining year will improve the real purchasing power of households in India and reduce input costs for corporates.
  • The March quarter of financial year 2025 performed one notch better than before, with 66 percent of indicators showing positive growth, compared to 64 percent and 61 percent in the previous two quarters.
