India Becomes the World’s Fourth-Largest Economy

 

  • In a press conference during the 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council Meeting, NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam stated that India has surpassed Japan to become the world’s fourth-largest economy. He further mentioned that India is expected to overtake Germany and reach the third position within the next 2.5 to 3 years.

25% Tariff on iPhone Imports from India: USA

  • US President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on iPhones manufactured in India and imported into the United States.
  • However, according to a report by the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI), despite this tariff, Make in India iPhones will remain cheaper in the US market.

First Khelo India Beach Games 2025

Monitor Action on Armed Violence (AOAV) Report

  • According to a report by the UK-based organization Monitor Action on Armed Violence (AOAV), Pakistan ranked seventh globally in terms of civilian deaths caused by explosive weapons in the year 2024.
  • According to the report, there were 790 civilian casualties in Pakistan in 2024, of which 210 were killed and 580 were injured. This figure is based on 248 incidents, which is the highest since 2014.

  • 76% of civilian casualties in Pakistan were caused by non-state (terrorist/militant) actors.
  • The biggest contributor was the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), which was responsible for 119 civilian casualties—a 440% increase compared to 2023.

World Thyroid Day

World Football Day

  • World Football Day is observed every year on 25 May to recognize the global significance of football and its social, cultural, and economic impact.
  • The day was officially proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly on 7 May 2024 through unanimous adoption.
