PM e-VIDYA DTH Channel No. 31

  • Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan launched the PM e-VIDYA DTH Channel No. 31 for Indian Sign Language in New Delhi.

What is Sign language?

Sign languages are visual-gestural manual languages that use movements of the hands, facial expressions, and head/body positions to convey linguistic messages.

Anna Chakra and SCAN

  • Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi launched Anna Chakra, a tool to enhance the efficiency of the Public Distribution System (PDS) supply chain, in New Delhi.
  • He also launched a portal named subsidy claim application for national food security act (SCAN), to ensure end-to-end automation of processes for the release and settlement of food subsidies.

Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024

  • The Parliament has given its nod to the Bharatiya Vayuyan Vidheyak 2024, after Rajya Sabha passed it on December 5th, 2024.
  • The Bill empowers the Central Government to make rules regulating the design, manufacture, maintenance, sale, export, or import of any aircraft and to secure the safety of aircraft operations.
  • The Bill is also aimed at empowering the government to make rules for the investigation of any air accident or incident.

Highlights of December 2024 MPC Meeting Of RBI

  • Gov Shaktikanta Das lowered the GDP growth rate for 2024-25 to 6.6% from 7.2%.
  • RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 6.5%, maintains neutral stance.
  • RBI cut the cash reserve ratio (CRR) by 50 basis points to 4%.
  • The RBI pegged CPI inflation at 4.8% for FY25 from the earlier estimate of 4.5%.
  • RBI has decided to raise the limit for collateral-free agriculture loans from Rs 1.6 lakh to Rs 2 lakh per borrower.

  • The Rate at which RBI lends money to commercial banks and financial institutions in India against government securities.

  • Liquidity refers to the ease with which an asset or security can be quickly bought or sold in the market without significantly affecting its price.

What is LCR?

  • Liquidity Coverage Ratio (LCR) is the requirement whereby banks must hold an amount of high-quality liquid assets that's enough to fund cash outflows for 30 days.

What is CPI?

  • Consumer Price Index (CPI) measures the average change in prices paid by consumers over a period of time for a basket of goods and services.

Various Policy Stances

Accommodative

  • An accommodative stance means the central bank is willing to cut the interest rates, to expand the money supply to boost economic growth.

Neutral

  • A ‘neutral stance’ suggests that the central bank can either cut rate or increase rate.

Hawkish

  • A hawkish stance indicates that the central bank is willing to hike interest rates to curb money supply and thus reduce the demand.the central bank’s top priority is to keep the inflation low.

Calibrated Tightening

  • It means the central bank may not go for a rate increase in every policy meeting but the overall policy stance is tilted towards a rate hike.

Proba-3 Mission of ESA

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched the European Space Agency's (ESA) Proba-3 mission aboard PSLV-C59 rocket, from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
  • The mission will provide key insights into solar phenomena and will study space weather through its observation of the Sun's outer rim - the Corona.

3rd Copernicus Sentinel-1 Satellite

  • The third Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellite was launched aboard a Vega-C rocket from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana. The launch marked the return of the Italian-built Vega-C launcher, two years after a failure during its debut commercial mission.
  • With 12 Sentinel satellite families, Copernicus is the world’s largest Earth observation system and boasts the largest repository of radar data.

About Carnatic Music

  • Carnatic music owes its name to the Sanskrit term Karnâtaka Sangîtam which denotes “traditional” or “codified” music.
  • Term emerged for the first time in Haripala’s “Sangeeta Sudhakara”, written in the 14th century A.D.
  • Purandardas (1484-1564), a prolific poet-composer and mystic of Vijayanagar, is considered to be the father of Carnatic music (Carnatic Sangeeta Pitamaha).
  • Tyagaraja, Syama Sastri and Muttusvami Dikshitar are together known as the “Trinity” of Carnatic music.
