Rajya Sabha passed Boilers Bill 2024

  • The Rajya Sabha passed the Boilers Bill 2024 on 4th December, which repeals the Boilers Act, 1923.
  • Specific provisions have been made to ensure the safety of persons working inside a boiler and the repair of boilers undertaken by qualified and competent persons.
  • Provisions related to the decriminalization have also been incorporated in the Bill.

MoU between India and Kuwait

Classification of Soils

Alluvial Soils

  • The entire northern plains are made of alluvial soil.
  • Also found in the eastern coastal plains particularly in the deltas of the Mahanadi, the Godavari, the Krishna and the Kaveri rivers.
  • Classified as old alluvial (Bangar) and new alluvial (Khadar).
  • Soils contain an adequate proportion of potash, phosphoric acid and lime.

Black Soil

  • Black in colour and are also known as regur soils.
  • Ideal for growing cotton and is also known as black cotton soil.
  • Spread over northwest Deccan plateau and is made up of lava flows.
  • Known for their capacity to hold moisture.
  • Rich in soil nutrients, such as calcium carbonate, magnesium, potash and lime.
Red and Yellow Soils
  • Develops on crystalline igneous rocks in areas of low rainfall in the eastern and southern parts of the Deccan plateau.
  • Develop a reddish colour due to diffusion of iron in crystalline and metamorphic rocks. It looks yellow when it occurs in a hydrated form.

Laterite Soil

  • The Latin word ‘later’ means brick.
  • Develops in areas with high temperature and heavy rainfall. This is the result of intense leaching due to heavy rain.
  • Red laterite soils in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are more suitable for crops like cashew nuts.

Arid Soils

  • Arid soils range from red to brown in colour.
  • Generally sandy in texture and saline in nature.
