  • In its first overseas project for digitising and archiving diaspora documents, the National Archives of India has successfully recorded the oral history of the old Indian merchant families in Oman and their historical documents.

GM mosquitoes

  • Genetically modified (GMO) mosquitoes were released in Djibouti, East Africa to fight malaria.
  • The release is part of the ‘Djibouti Friendly Mosquito Programme’ started two years ago to stop the spread of Anopheles stephensi, an invasive species of mosquito.

China’s "One Person, One File" Program

BHEL & BARC

  • Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has signed an agreement with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) for 50 kW alkaline electrolyser system to produce hydrogen.
  • The technology for hydrogen production is developed indigenously by BHEL and has high local material content.

  • REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power and a leading NBFC, has been honoured with the ‘Sustainability Champion – Editor’s Choice Award’ at the ‘Outlook Planet Sustainability Summit & Awards 2024’.   • Indian Army Major Radhika Sen has been selected to receive ‘2023 Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award” recognising her advocacy for women and girls while serving as a United Nation (UN) peacekeeper.

  • Indian mountaineer Satyadeep Gupta has scripted history by becoming the first person to scale Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse twice in one season. He also set another record by being the first Indian to traverse from Mt. Everest to Mt. Lhotse in 11 hours and 15 minutes.

Asian Championship, 2024 

  • In Arm Wrestling, the Indian contingent has clinched a total of seven medals including one gold and six bronze at the Asian Championship, 2024 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. 
  • Shrimant Jha, who participated in two categories, was the top performer for India. He won the gold medal in the left-hand para category, while he won the bronze medal in the right-hand para category.
