Ministry of Women and Child Development

  • An internal study commissioned by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, revealed that Women and children in Bihar, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Telangana are particularly vulnerable to climate change-related disasters.

Pakistan-China

  • Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar will embark on a three-day official visit to China on Monday, during which he will meet top Chinese leaders and review bilateral relations, including the upgradation of the multi-billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

Electric flying taxi prototype

  • Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, has unveiled images of India's first electric flying taxi prototype.
  • The prototype, developed by the ePlane Company, an initiative at the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, is set to be operational by next year.

KABIL

  • Secretary, Ministry of Mines Shri V L Kantha Rao inaugurated the Registered Office of Khanij Bidesh India Ltd(KABIL) at Sansad Marg, New Delhi. 
  • KABIL, a Joint Venture Company formed by NALCO, HCL and MECL, the CPSEs under the Ministry of Mines, is entrusted with the important mission of identifying, exploring, acquiring, and developing critical & strategic mineral assets overseas.

  • Due to high scrutiny and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF) has asked distributors to limit stocking of packaged spices products.

Solar Storm Hits Earth

  • On May 11, 2024, Earth experienced its most significant solar storm in over two decades which was visible in the form of dazzling auroras spanning from Tasmania to Britain.
  • The storm, triggered by multiple coronal mass ejections (CMEs) from the sun, stirred a global buzz due to its potent impact on communication networks, satellite functions, and power grids.

West Nile Virus

  • Kerala is on high alert as West Nile Virus cases reported from Kozhikode, Thrissur, Malappuram.
  • The West Nile virus (WNV) is a mosquito-borne arbovirus of the family Flaviviridae, belonging to the Japanese encephalitis antigenic complex.

3D printed rocket engine test

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully conducted a hot test of a liquid rocket engine manufactured using additive manufacturing (AM) technology, or 3D printing. 
  • This engine is intended for use in the PS4, the upper stage of ISRO's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).

Mammoth

  • Mammoth, the largest carbon dioxide capture and storage facility of its kind which is situated on a dormant volcano in Iceland launched its operations.
  • Swiss start-up Climeworks intends to suck 36,000 tonnes of CO2 from the air annually to bury underground, vying to prove the technology has a place in the fight against global warming.

India's Tri-Service Act 

  • India has officially notified the Inter-Services Organisations (Command, Control and Discipline) Act, a pivotal step towards the creation of unified theatre commands.
  • The ISO Act empowers military commanders of existing tri-service organizations with full administrative and disciplinary powers over personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force serving under them.

  • Eminent author Ruskin Bond has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship.
