Dhordo village of Gujarat included in UN WTO list -

  • UNWTO has included Dhordo village of Gujarat in the list of 54 best tourist villages.
  • The UNWTO General Assembly held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from 16 to 20 October received 260 applications for the Best Tourism Village. Out of these, 54 villages were selected for this. Dhordo is the only village in India to get this title.
  • Such villages are selected for the promotion and preservation of natural and cultural resources, sustainable economic model of the village, social and environmental sustainability, cultural diversity, local values and traditional food.

 Dhordo village -

  • This is the last village of Bani region present in the northern part of Kutch district.
  • This village situated on the Indo-Pak border is known for the annual run festival.
  • In this village one can experience a blend of local culture and natural nature of the Rann of Kutch.
  • Due to the white salt, this village situated in the desert looks even whiter during winter.
  • It is noteworthy that through Kutch Rann Utsav, Dhordo's civilization, culture, folk life and their lifestyle of economic earning came before the world.

 Run Fest - 

  • Initiated - 2006 (by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi)
  • Rann Utsav is one of India's most successful tourism events, celebrating the wonders of nature in the white desert and the rich cultural and artistic heritage of Kutch.
