E-Court Project: Phase 3 -

Context -
- Expanding the e-Court Mission Mode Project, its third phase has been approved by the Cabinet.
- The government will spend Rs 7210 crore on this project in the next four years.
- The third phase of the e-Courts project is based on the philosophy of “Access and Inclusion”.
Background -
- e-Courts Integrated Mission Mode Project is one of the national e-Governance projects being implemented in the District and Subordinate Courts of the country since the year 2007.
- Phase 1: It was implemented during the year 2011-2015.
- Phase II: It was started in the year 2015 under which various District and Subordinate Courts of 2 users have been computerized.
Objective -
- The objective of this project is to provide the necessary hardware and software applications to enable the courts to provide e-services, and enable the judiciary to monitor and manage the functioning of the courts.
- Also to provide designated services to litigants, lawyers and judiciary by universal computerization of District and Subordinate Courts and enhancing ICT enablement of the justice system.
Initiatives taken under the Court Project-
- Network improvements,
- Open source software,
- NJDG Database (a database of National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) orders, judgments and cases),
- Virtual court,
- Video conferencing,
- E-filing etc.
Benefit -
- Increase transparency
- Increase in accountability and responsibility
- Better efficiency
- Increase in coordination etc.
