Pooja Ghatkar bags 10m Air Rifle bronze at Shooting World Cup:
In International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), Indian shooter Pooja Ghatkar win her maiden World Cup medal, at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range, New Delhi. She finished third in the 10m Air Rifle event. Ghatkar clinched bronze medal with a score of 228.8 in the final round. China’s Mengyao Shi secured gold with a score of 252.1 - setting a new world record in the event.
The silver went to China’s Lijie Dong for a score of 248.9. Earlier, she has won gold in the Asian Air Gun Championship in 2014. Mentored by Olympic bronze-medallist Gagan Narang, Ghatkar managed a fine 10.8 and 10.7 in her 19th and 21st shots to assure herself of a medal.
ISSF World Cup - It was introduced by the International Shooting Sport Federation in 1986 to provide a homogeneous system for qualification to the Olympic shooting competitions. It still is carried out in the Olympic shooting events, with four competitions per year in each event. For the best shooters there is since 1988 a World Cup Final.
